Teleprompter rental questions, answered
Short answers on cost, scripts, backups and booking for teleprompter rental in Vancouver, BC. For anything not covered here, call (604) 671-4096.
How much does it cost to rent a teleprompter in Vancouver?
With an operator, $450 to $950 for a half day and $750 to $1,500 for a full day, in Canadian dollars before GST. See the full rate card.
Is an operator included in the price?
Yes. Every package includes an operator for setup, rehearsal and the show, plus script loading and live edits.
How far ahead should I book?
As soon as you have a date. Spring and fall conference season fills first. Short-notice requests are welcome, so call (604) 671-4096 if your event is close.
What format should the script be in?
Word, Google Docs, PDF or plain text. Send the latest draft whenever you have it and it gets formatted for the prompter.
How late can the script change?
Right up to the moment the speaker walks on, and between speakers during the show. Edits take seconds.
Can you handle several speakers in one event?
Yes. Each speaker's script is loaded separately with their preferred text size, and the operator moves between them as the program runs.
What is the difference between a presidential and a camera teleprompter?
A presidential teleprompter is a pair of glass panels beside a lectern, for speaking to a room. A camera teleprompter sits in front of a lens, for speaking to viewers. The comparison guide covers both.
Do you work with our AV company or the venue's in-house AV?
Yes. The operator connects to their switcher or monitors by HDMI or SDI and coordinates with their crew directly.
What happens if the equipment fails during a speech?
A second laptop runs the same script in step with the first and takes over if needed, so the speaker keeps reading.
Where do you work?
Across Metro Vancouver with no travel charge, and in Whistler, Victoria, Kelowna and the rest of British Columbia with travel quoted per job.
Do you work on film and television productions?
The focus is corporate events, conferences and corporate video. Union film and television productions in British Columbia crew their teleprompter operators through ICG 669.
How fast will the text scroll?
As fast as the speaker talks. Most people speak at roughly 130 to 150 words a minute, and the operator adjusts continuously to match.
